Dr. Johnson has extensive training and experience in the use of cutting edge technology and advanced examination techniques to diagnose and manage patients with glaucoma; he has expertise in the use of lasers and surgical procedures to prevent vision loss from glaucoma. His unique and thorough training allows him to offer traditional glaucoma surgical procedures such as tube shunts or trabeculectomy, as well as newer techniques including canaloplasty, trabeculectomy with an Ex-PRESS shunt, or endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (laser) combined with cataract surgery. He is skilled in performing both routine and complex cataract surgery, with experience in IOLs to correct astigmatism or presbyopia. Dr. Johnson also treats patients with other eye-related conditions.
Dr. Johnson grew up in Fargo, North Dakota, and received his undergraduate degree in philosophy at the University of Dallas, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Following graduation, he was awarded a year-long Fulbright scholarship in Hamburg, Germany, and then returned to the Midwest to attend medical school at the University of Minnesota. He completed an internship at Hennepin County Medical Center, and ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota, where he received the oculoplastic surgery award. He completed a yearlong medical and surgical fellowship in glaucoma at the renowned Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City. He has published multiple articles related to ophthalmology in professional journals.
Dr. Johnson and his wife, Amanda, have a young son and a golden retriever. In their spare time, they love being outdoors in Minnesota or across the country, cooking, enjoying live music (especially local artists), being involved in their church and relaxing with friends and family.
